WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Representative Brittany Pettersen (CO-07) released the following statement after voting against House Republicans' partisan continuing resolution, short-term legislation to fund the government until November 21.
The funding bill fails to meet the needs of the American people, continues to cut spending and skirts essential projects to address our national security, public safety and economic stability, and fails to extend address the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits that are set to expire at the end of the year, which will cause health care premiums to skyrocket by as high as 265% in Pettersen's district alone.
"Across Colorado, people are being squeezed by rising costs because of Trump's disastrous economic policies and this funding bill does nothing to meet the economic and health care needs of the American people - and that's before the tsunami hits from Trump's Big Ugly Bill. The American people deserve to have a government that works for them and finds bipartisan solutions to address our urgent needs, and repeatedly, Republicans have refused to bring Democrats to the table."
"And once again, we are facing a looming shutdown because of the chaos and dysfunction of the Republican majority. Their inability to govern has real consequences for regular people who rely on these services and has detrimental impacts to our economy and safety. I continue to be so deeply disappointed as an American and as a Member of this body."
