Comuniqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, in response to the arbitrary, unjustified, and hostile decision of the government of the Republic of Ecuador to declare all Cuban diplomatic, consular, and administrative personnel accredited in that country persona non grata, and given the impossibility of maintaining diplomatic representation, has decided to cease using the building used as the headquarters of the Cuban Embassy and to withdraw, with immediate effect, all attributes and symbols identifying its diplomatic mission in Quito.

Consequently, as of 10:00 a.m. (Quito time) today, March 6, 2026, the building that has housed the Cuban Embassy in Ecuador to date ceases to function as a diplomatic headquarters.

The Cuban government deeply regrets the unilateral and unfriendly action of the Ecuadorian government, which undermines the spirit of respect and cooperation that has historically characterized bilateral relations between the two countries.

This decision was officially communicated on March 5, 2026, by the Cuban Embassy in Quito to the Ecuadorian authorities.

Havana, March 6, 2026.
