Project Announcement: Continuous Oversight of Selected DoW Transactions to Test Management Controls and Identify Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Within DoW Programs (Project No. D2027-D000AU-0013.000)

Audit

The purpose of this memorandum is to notify you of the DoW OIG's ongoing efforts to review selected DoW transactions to test internal controls and identify fraud, waste, and abuse within DoW programs. The OIG started this continuous oversight in FY 2024. To ensure that current DoW leadership is aware of these efforts, we are reannouncing the project for FY 2027. Under the Inspector General Act of 1978, 5 U.S.C. §§ 401-424, as amended, we periodically review DoW transactions, such as civilian pay, health care payments, and Government purchase card payments, to identify transactions that have indicators of fraud, waste, or abuse. We access various automated information systems and databases to gather and analyze this data and use it to make the appropriate follow-on inquiries. As a result of this work, we may initiate an audit or evaluation, make investigative referrals, or issue advisories and other products depending on the nature of the issues that come to our attention.
