UnityPoint Health Celebrates Five- and Four-Star Hospitals

UnityPoint Health Celebrates Five- and Four-Star Hospitals

May 18, 2026

Four UnityPoint Health hospitals earned a Five- or Four-Star Overall Rating for 2026 in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) annual Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings.

UnityPoint Health - Meriter received a Five-Star Rating from CMS. This distinction reflects the hospital's exceptional performance in providing expert care and exceptional patient outcomes for Madison, Wis., Dane County and beyond. Nationally, only 12 percent of hospitals participating in the CMS Start Ratings receive Five Stars.

A Five-Star Rating signifies that Meriter has met rigorous standards of care across various quality metrics, including patient experience, safety and clinical outcomes. This recognition highlights the hospital's commitment to excellence and its continuous efforts to enhance patient experience.

"This recognition is a testament to our providers and team members who go above and beyond every day to provide the highest quality of care to our patients," said James Arnett, Market President at Meriter. "Our team members remain committed to providing expert care and an exceptional experience to every patient we serve."

UnityPoint Health - St. Luke's Hospital - Cedar Rapids, UnityPoint Health - Jones Regional Medical Center and UnityPoint Health - Trinity Muscatine Hospital all earned Four-Star Overall Rating designations this rating period. Fewer than 1,000 hospitals nationwide received a Four-Star Overall Rating.

CMS Overall Star Ratings are based on data measuring five aspects of quality of care:

  • Mortality
  • Readmission
  • Safety of Care
  • Patient Experience
  • Timely and Effective Care

The CMS Overall Star Rating system is designed to help people make informed healthcare decisions by providing a transparent evaluation of hospital performance.

"This recognition is a testament to our providers and team members who go above and beyond every day to provide the highest quality of care to our patients,"

James Arnett Market President at Meriter
