American Veterinary Dental College – September 24, 2025

The American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC) held its annual meeting September 24 in San Antonio.

Awards

Peter Emily Service Award

Dr. John Lewis

Dr. John Lewis (Pennsylvania '97), Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. A diplomate of the AVDC, Dr. Lewis practices at Veterinary Dentistry Specialists in Chadds Ford. He is also the founder and serves as an instructor at Silo Academy Education Center, a training facility for veterinary dentists in Chadds Ford. Dr. Lewis previously worked as an associate professor of dentistry and oral surgery and was chief of surgery at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine's Ryan Veterinary Hospital. He is a past president of the American Veterinary Dental Society and a past editor-in-chief of the Journal of Veterinary Dentistry.

Up and Coming Award

Dr. Melissa Guillory

Dr. Melissa Guillory (Prince Edward '08), Bozeman, Montana. A diplomate of the AVDC, Dr. Guillory owns Montana Pet Dentistry and Oral Surgery in Bozeman. She previously practiced in Juneau, Alaska, and Great Falls, Montana.

Robert Wiggs Outstanding Candidate Award

Dr. Alexandria Wright

Dr. Alexandria Wright (Cornell '18), Ithaca, New York. A diplomate of the AVDC, Dr. Wright is an assistant clinical professor of dentistry and oral surgery at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. She is also a fellowship candidate in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the veterinary college.

Presidential Medal for Stewardship

Dr. Susan Crowder Dr. Kendall Taney

Drs. Susan Crowder (Kansas State '98), Overland Park, Kansas, and Kendall Taney (Virginia-Maryland '02), Gaithersburg, Maryland. A diplomate and president-elect of the AVDC, Dr. Crowder practices at Companion Animal Dentistry of Kansas City. She has served in leadership roles with the American Veterinary Dental Society and Foundation for Veterinary Dentistry.

A diplomate of the AVDC and an AVDC oral and maxillofacial surgery fellow, Dr. Taney practices at the Center for Veterinary Dentistry & Oral Surgery in Gaithersburg. She is a past chair of the AVDC Credentials Committee and AVDC Examination Committee and serves as a member at large on the AVDC board of directors.
