The Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA) joined a coalition of leading trade organizations in a letter to Attorney General Pamela Bondi urging the Department of Justice to protect strong encryption and resist efforts by foreign governments to weaken cybersecurity safeguards. The letter expresses concern over the United Kingdom's reported use of "Technical Capability Notices" to compel technology companies, including Apple, to introduce backdoors into encrypted services - a move that could endanger global data security and privacy.
The coalition calls on the U.S. government to use provisions under the U.S.-UK Data Access Agreement to disincentivize such actions and ensure American companies can continue to provide robust security and privacy protections for users worldwide.
