Advocating for You: Pushing back against rental restrictions in Markham

Your Illinois REALTORS® Governmental Affairs Team has been working to stop an extension of the city of Markham's rental moratorium. Despite our efforts and public outcry from tenants and housing providers, the measure passed Wednesday, Sept. 17. Unfortunately, the city's intention is to drive their rental market rate from the current 19 percent to 10 percent, a move that will not only step on private property rights, but will also prevent South Suburban residents from accessing affordable housing options.

REALTORS® are at the center of a coalition fighting this harmful policy.
