The Institute for Electronic Arts (iea) at Alfred University is proud to announce the official launch of ieaEditions, a new initiative dedicated to producing and releasing a series of limited-edition prints and publications. Proceeds from the sale of these unique works will directly support the IEA's ongoing mission to foster groundbreaking collaborative projects between artists and technologists.
ieaEditions is a testament to the dynamic creative process that defines the Institute's residency program. Each edition is a unique artifact, born from the synergy of an artist's vision and the technical expertise of the IEA staff. The collection will feature a diverse range of works, including traditional prints, experimental publications, and innovative hybrid media pieces that push the boundaries of artistic practice.
This initiative not only provides a platform for artists to share their work with a wider audience but also offers collectors and art enthusiasts an opportunity to acquire a piece of this cutting-edge creative history. ieaEditions are available for purchase through the iea's online store. For more information or to view the first releases in person, please visit the ieaEditions website. A small sampling of artists available are: Gary Hill, Nancy Bloom, Janet Ballweg, Luftwerk, Jenny Robinson, Rita MacDonald, Adele Henderson, and Nicholas Ruth.
The iea was established in 1997 with the focus of developing electronic imaging studios to support cross-disciplinary work and to sponsor interactive artist residencies. The Institute currently develops projects to support electronic and print studios and international communications.
Central to the iea's mission is the preservation and dissemination of experimental media, a task being significantly advanced by the ieaArchive. With the assistance of two undergraduate interns, the archive is being digitized, organized, and made searchable online-an ongoing long-term project. The iea aims to amplify artists' voices, democratize access to experimental media, and foster dynamic exchanges between local and international audiences, enhancing opportunities for all. This dedicated effort ensures that the iea's rich history and the groundbreaking work of its residents remain accessible and influential for future generations of creators and scholars.
"The launch of ieaEditions is a natural extension of our commitment to supporting artists," said Myles Calvert, director of the iea. "By creating these tangible, limited-edition works, we are celebrating the collaborative spirit of the iea and generating a sustainable revenue stream that will help us continue to offer invaluable residencies. This initiative works hand-in-hand with our efforts to expand the ieaArchive's accessibility, promote artists, and create opportunities for students, completing a cycle of creation, preservation, and sharing that truly embodies our core values."
