Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores | June 26, 2026 | Press Release
The Foreign Ministry is pleased to announce that Dr. Marta Clara Ferreyra Beltrán was elected to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) for the period 2027-2030 in elections held on June 26 in New York.
Dr. Ferreyra Beltrán is a professor at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and an expert in gender equality, gender mainstreaming, and care policies. She has extensive experience in the design and implementation of equality policies, as well as in developing institutional protocols to prevent and address gender-based violence.
As a member of the Committee, Dr. Ferreyra will promote discussion of care issues from a feminist perspective and the fight against stereotypes, and will work to keep non-discrimination, lives free from violence, and autonomy at the center of efforts to build more equitable and just societies.
The Foreign Ministry extends its sincere congratulations to Dr. Ferreyra Beltrán on her election and wishes her every success in this new role.
This will be the third time Mexico has had a national expert on the CEDAW: Ambassador Aida González Martínez served on the Committee from 1982 to 1992 and from 1997 to 2004, including as its President from 2000 to 2004; and Dr. Leticia Bonifaz served as a Committee expert from 2021 to 2024.
