Peoria Man Charged with Attempt Murder After Shooting Girlfriend

October 10, 2025, Peoria, IL - Today, a Peoria County Judge ordered Calvin L. Freeman, 35, to remain in custody while awaiting trial for shooting his girlfriend earlier this week. Yesterday, Freeman was charged with Attempt First-Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Aggravated Domestic Battery, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.

On October 5, 2025, around 4:50 a.m., police were dispatched to an area hospital regarding a female with a gunshot wound to the base of her neck. The victim sustained several other injuries, including a broken clavicle, fractured shoulder, a lacerated lung, and broken ribs, and is currently in stable condition.

On October 7, the victim was able to speak with detectives and identified Freeman as the shooter. A search warrant was executed at Freeman's home, where a firearm was recovered. Freeman was arrested on October 8 and admitted to shooting the victim with the recovered firearm.
