Finding your path through exploratory studies at AU

Choosing a major can feel overwhelming for students who are still figuring out their strengths and long-term goals. Aurora University's exploratory studies (undecided) program is designed to give students the space and support to learn more about themselves before committing to a major.

Exploratory studies students receive tailored guidance that begins on their first campus visit and continues through activities and conversations with academic advisors, career counselors, and First Year Seminar instructors. While discussing their interests, students begin to identify their strengths, values, and goals and how they might align with potential careers. Along the way, they can explore more than 60 program offerings at AU to determine an academic focus that fits who they are and who they hope to become.

For many students, the connections and self-exploration help in building confidence and finding direction. For Raul Ramirez '29, the exploratory studies program offered a welcoming support system and meaningful opportunities while he was still finding his path.

"I struggled to figure out what direction I wanted to go, but faculty and staff reminded me that even when nothing felt like it was working, I was always one step ahead of where I used to be," Ramirez said.

This encouragement gave him the reassurance he needed to make a decision and move forward as a sport management major. Thanks to the exploratory studies program, "I discovered a field that genuinely excites me about my future," he added.
