On May 28, Ambassador Liu Weimin visited Constituency No. 10 in Tonga. He was accompanied by Hon. Lanumata, Minister for Trade and Economic Development and Member of Parliament for Constituency No. 10, along with local officials. During the visit, Ambassador Liu held in-depth discussions with local representatives on topics including the development of community-based agriculture and fisheries, infrastructure improvement, and the contributions of the Chinese community in Tonga.
Ambassador Liu stated that the Chinese government always upholds a people-centered development philosophy, committed to improving the well-being of the people and enhancing public welfare, which aligns with Tonga's development priorities. China is willing to continue supporting grassroots communities in Tonga to improve livelihoods, promote economic and social development, and further consolidate the foundation of China-Tonga friendship.
Hon. Lanumata and others spoke highly of China's long-standing support for Tonga's livelihood development, expressing their expectation to deepen cooperation with China for the benefit of the people.
Ambassador Liu also met with members of the Chinese community in the constituency. He encouraged them to respect local customs, abide by laws and regulations, fulfill their social responsibilities, actively integrate into the local society, and continue contributing to the deepening of China-Tonga friendship.
