Senate Democrats Hold Sean Duffy Accountable for Taxpayer-Funded Vacation Arrow

Today, Donald Trump's Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy got heat from Senate Democrats over his taxpayer-funded family road trip and his claim that, "It fits any budget to do a road trip," as Trump's war with Iran has pushed the average price of gas to $4.53 per gallon. Duffy's trip - a reality series of family excursions filmed over seven months while he was on-the-clock - was paid for in part with taxpayer funds and corporate sponsorships, raising serious ethical concerns.

A government watchdog group has raised alarms on the blatant corruption and waste of taxpayer dollars on Duffy's road trip, and a would-be sponsor of the trip even declined to participate due to the ethical implications of potentially buying access to Duffy.

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

"Donald Trump and Sean Duffy are presiding over record-high gas prices because of Trump's war with Iran, yet Duffy still took Americans' hard-earned tax dollars for a family road trip. While working families cut back on expenses and cancel summer travel plans just to make ends meet in Trump's economy, Trump and his administration officials are sticking taxpayers with the bill for endless vanity projects: the White House ballroom, a helipad on the White House lawn, the 'Arc de Trump' - the list goes on and on. It couldn't be clearer: Trump and his administration are completely out of touch with everyday Americans."

Americans were already struggling in Trump's economy amid high prices and disappearing jobs. Since Trump started his war with Iran, gas prices have spiked by 50%, and Americans have paid $40 billion more on fuel, and 67.4% of Americans say gas prices are impacting their summer travel plans.
