The Center for Teaching and Learning will host an in-person session titled "Discernment and Design for Student Writing and Research: a CTL Conversation About Generative AI" on Thursday, April 16, from 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. in Raynor 330B. The talk will explore approaches to teaching writing and research in an artificial intelligence-integrated environment.
Drawing on first-year writing in the Foundations in Rhetoric program and AI literacy workshops with Raynor Library, the session will examine how generative AI can be used intentionally and transparently to support the research process. Grounded in Ignatian spirituality, the discussion will focus on fostering critical thinking, strengthening source evaluation and supporting student voice, particularly for first-generation students navigating academic expectations.
The session will also address equitable preparation, emphasizing access to skills and confidence needed for workforce readiness and informed participation in an AI-integrated world. Participants will receive practical examples and adaptable strategies for incorporating generative AI into writing and research instruction.
The program will include a presentation by Aesha Adams-Roberts of the Educational Opportunity Program and Alissa Fial, head of research, teaching and learning at Raynor Library, followed by a facilitated conversation led by Maxwell Gray.
