Government Shutdown Guidance and Resources from the Office of Rep. Eli Crane

At 12:01 a.m. today, the federal government officially entered a shutdown. Although the House of Representatives passed a plan to fund the government through November 21, 2025, Senate Democrats overwhelmingly blocked this approach. As a result, we remain at an impasse until at least 60 Senators agree to advance a funding bill to the President's desk.

While many federal agencies will face disruptions during this period, Rep. Eli Crane's offices will remain fully operational. If you are in need of assistance with casework, please call the Prescott district office at (928) 286-5338 or click here. We're here to help and answer any questions you may have.

For your awareness, Social Security, FEMA disaster assistance personnel, and other essential services will still be operational during the shutdown. Other agencies are actively coordinating their plans until spending resumes.

Please visit the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) website for additional information.

Background:

On September 19, the House of Representatives passed a plan to extend government funding through November 21. In order for this measure to be signed into law, 60 Senators must agree to the framework.

Unfortunately, nearly every Senate Democrat has voted against this funding plan, with only two Democrats and an Independent supporting the bill as of this afternoon. If only five more Democrats vote in favor of the package, the shutdown will end.

Services That Will Continue:

The programs listed below will remain operational, but the agencies in charge of them will see workforce shortages until the shutdown is resolved. This is not a full list, but an overview of key services:

  • Medicare and Medicaid benefits
  • Social Security payments, including SSI benefits
  • VA medical care and benefits (some regional offices may close)
  • Disability payments
  • SNAP benefits (longer shutdown could cause disruptions)
  • Mail delivery
  • Federal law enforcement and military operations
  • Federal employee retirement payments
  • Air travel
  • Student aid, including Pell Grants and Federal Direct Student Loans
  • Visa and passport services (longer wait times expected)

Information for Federal Employees:

For the foreseeable future, many federal employees will be furloughed. Others will be required to work without pay, but they will receive back pay under federal law.

For specific details on individual agencies, visit the department's .gov site (ex: https://www.dhs.gov, https://www.va.gov) and check their HR or shutdown resource pages.

Rep. Crane's offices will continue to operate as usual for as long as this shutdown lasts. We will never stop working for the great people of AZ-02.
