UNM to confer more than 2,000 degrees at fall commencement Dec. 11-12

The University of New Mexico will celebrate the fall class of 2025 in two separate commencement ceremonies on Thursday, Dec. 11 and Friday, Dec. 12 at University Arena (commonly known as the Pit).

The graduate ceremony for master's and doctoral students will be held Dec. 11, and the undergraduate ceremony will be held Dec. 12. Both will be at 6 p.m.

A total of 2,050 will receive UNM degrees or certificates this fall across all campuses, with approximately 1,912 of those receiving degrees from the Albuquerque campus. An official degree count is determined following commencement.

Official programs listing the ceremony order will be available at graduation.unm.edu prior to the events.

The ceremony will also be livestreamed on UNM's social media, as well as at the 2025 Fall Commencement livestream and stories of Inspiring Graduates.

The breakdown is as follows:

  • 1,262 bachelor's degrees
  • 459 master's degrees
  • 123 doctorates
  • 14 juris doctorates
  • 6 medical doctorates
  • 44 graduate certificates
  • 4 education specialists

UNM's branch campuses will also confer the following degrees:

  • UNM Gallup will award 54 associate degrees and 25 certificates.
  • UNM Los Alamos will award 17 associate degrees
  • UNM Taos will award 15 associate degrees and 12 certificates
  • UNM Valencia will award 13 associate degrees and two certificates.

Popejoy Dissertation Prize
During the graduate ceremony on Dec. 11, the Tom L. Popejoy Dissertation Prize will be awarded to Amber Gallup, who received her Ph.D. in 2024 in Organization, Information and Learning Sciences. Her dissertation was titled "The Development of Identity, Self-Efficacy, and Persistence Intentions Among Frontline Healthcare Apprentices."

The Popejoy Dissertation Prize is presented in recognition of the highest level of academic excellence in the social sciences and education. This semester, eligibility was for the period spanning spring 2022 through fall 2024. The award is one of UNM's most distinguished honors for graduate students, recognizing original, impactful and innovative doctoral research.

Convocations
