State Funding Brings Grocery Store to Food Desert Community

"While removing environmental hazards is crucial, utilizing DTSC's Equitable Community Revitalization Grant funds means much more - it represents an investment in the City of Lynwood's future," said City of Lynwood Interim City Manager Gabriel A. Gonzalez. "By transforming this site into a new grocery store that creates jobs, provides fresh food and strengthens local businesses, we're building a healthier, more equitable and thriving community."

Revitalizing Communities Across California

The Lynwood project is one of more than 90 revitalization efforts statewide supported through DTSC's Equitable Community Revitalization Grant program. The initiative helps local governments, nonprofits, and developers clean up and safely reuse contaminated properties - known as brownfields - for housing, parks and community spaces. Through the Equitable Community Revitalization Grant program, DTSC is investing more than $130 million to support cleanup and reuse of 154 sites across 49 cities and 22 counties. These projects are expected to create nearly 5,000 affordable homes and new community spaces in areas that have historically faced environmental and economic barriers.
