Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright represented the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in the structuring and implementation of a liquidity guarantee of approximately US$59 million to support renewable power generation projects in Ecuador. The transaction closed on September 4, 2026.
The guarantee was provided in connection with renewable energy projects developed by TotalEnergies, Gran Solar and Urcuquisolar. Designed to cover commercial revenue risks under electricity concession agreements, the guarantee is expected to support project development, strengthen investor confidence and encourage private investment in Ecuador's renewable energy sector.
"Renewable energy projects play a critical role in supporting long-term energy security and sustainability goals across Latin America," said Kenneth Hansen, who led Norton Rose Fulbright's representation. "We were pleased to assist IDB on a transaction designed to support renewable energy development and help advance critical infrastructure projects in Ecuador."
Norton Rose Fulbright's team was led by Kenneth Hansen and included Micaela Garcia-Ribeyro (Washington, DC).
The firm's projects practice is one of the largest of its kind with more than 350 lawyers across 50 offices acting on some of the world's most innovative, complex and challenging projects. Norton Rose Fulbright was ranked as a top four global project finance legal advisor by volume for 2025, with deals valued at more than US$90 billion in aggregate (IJGlobal Q1, 2026).
