911: When to Call or Text Guidelines-

In collaboration with the Dallas Police Department's 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Center, the Office of Community Police Oversight is sharing the "When to Call or Text 9-1-1" flyer to provide helpful information during an emergency. This resource is designed to help residents better understand when to appropriately call or text 9-1-1 and when to use alternative reporting options for non-emergency situations. We ask that employees review the flyer and, when appropriate, share this information with residents, community members, and stakeholders to support informed use of emergency services. El Peso Hero: Guardian of The Borderlands- Aug 1 to 15

El Peso Hero, launched in 2011 by Dallas-based educator and artist Héctor Rodríguez III, follows Ignacio Rivera, a reluctant Mexican American superhero endowed with super strength and unbreakable skin. The hero defends the disenfranchised along the U.S.-Mexico border, standing up against injustice and supporting vulnerable communities. The series blends high-stakes action with commentary on immigration, equity, and multiculturalism. Bilingual by design, with the hero speaking only Spanish, it reflects the Spanglish rhythms of border life, drawing on Rodríguez's upbringing in Eagle Pass, Texas, and his family's legacy. Swan Strings Saturdays- Aug 1 to 29

Join Swan Strings for a series of community music sessions at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center. Swan Strings is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit music program dedicated to providing free music education, community concerts, and sound therapy services to North Texas individuals without access to these resources. Since receiving its 501(c)(3) status in 2019, Founding Director Jess Garland has contributed approximately 1,000 hours of free music education, serving 400 children and 50 adults across the community. "Forget Me Not" examines the preservation of memories around love, self-exploration, and grief toward collective healing after living and cross-pollinating on the border town of Brownsville, Texas, in March 2024 as part of the Flower Shop's Artist in Residency. This exhibition is a token of keeping love and memories alive through photography, sculpture, painting, printmaking, textiles, and animation to explore ideas of remembrance, healing, placemaking, re-building, and nostalgia. The City offers emergency assistance for utility bills (electric, water, gas) and rent for residents who live within the City of Dallas limits. Documents typically needed: government-issued ID, Social Security cards for all household members, lease or proof of homeownership, recent income proof, utility bill, eviction/mortgage delinquency notice. Refugee Youth Mentorship (RYM) Program-

The IRC Youth program is seeking referrals for Refugee Youth Mentorship, Middle School, and Early Childhood programs. The RYM provides individualized mentorship to refugee youth (ages 15-24), supporting them in achieving academic, career, and social integration goals. Services include individualized goal setting, positive cultural identity curriculum, biweekly or monthly one-on-one in-person mentorship meetings, monthly group activities, and ongoing support to help participants reach their goals. Tent's Mentorship Program for Refugees-

The Tent Partnership for Refugees, a network of over 400 major companies committed to connecting refugees to work worldwide, runs a professional mentorship program for refugees in the U.S. where refugee mentees are individually paired with a mentor from a major company (e.g. Hilton, Pfizer, PayPal) with a similar professional background. The goal of Tent's mentorship program is to help mentees better navigate the U.S. job market and advance in their careers. There is no fee to join this mentorship program, and all forcibly displaced migrants in the U.S. are eligible to participate, including asylum seekers, asylees, humanitarian parolees, refugees, TPS holders, and victims of human trafficking. Refugees who speak English or Spanish are eligible to participate.

NGOs who email us will receive email templates, draft social media posts, and flyers (available in English and Spanish) that would make it easy for them to share information about the mentorship programs with their refugee clients. These resources contain a link to a brief registration form that refugees need to complete to sign up, and Tent uses this information to match them with a mentor based on similar professional interests.

For organizations looking to connect their refugee clients to work opportunities, Tent would also be happy to co-host any hiring events with local organizations. We've successfully co-hosted dozens of refugee hiring events across the country in partnership with city governments and local NGOs. While local organizations take the lead on planning the event and inviting refugee candidates, we can invite our 200+ Tent U.S. members to participate and lead an information session on best practices for recruiting refugee talent for participating recruiters. We're pleased to share that we've recently updated and expanded our eligibility criteria making it possible to serve even more work-authorized newcomers to rebuild and restart their professional careers in the U.S. This new update means that a broader range of immigrants and refugees can now access our free, personalized career coaching and comprehensive job readiness training.

Here are the key eligibility changes:

• We will now serve people who have lived in the U.S. up to 10 years (adjusted from 7 years)

• Applicants may be based anywhere in the U.S. - no limitations on states served

• Newcomers who have held prior U.S. work experience will also be eligible

• We have expanded the range of eligible visa categories, please see here the full list of eligible visas
