FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Today, Senator Jim Banks (R-Ind.) announced his support of Governor Mike Braun's request for a Presidential Emergency Declaration following recent severe weather that caused historic flooding, tornadoes, and widespread damage across Indiana.
The declaration would provide additional resources to support emergency response efforts, including swiftwater rescues, power restoration, and support for communities affected by the storms.
Senator Jim Banks (R-Ind.): "I have notified FEMA and the Trump administration that I support Governor Mike Braun's Emergency Declaration request, and I ask them to honor it. My office is on-the-ground, working with the state and local partners to facilitate relief efforts, and we stand ready to assist all impacted Hoosiers."
Background:
Severe weather began impacting Indiana on August 11 and has resulted in deaths, injuries, damaged homes, businesses, and infrastructure, displaced families, and disrupted emergency services. Power outages peaked at more than 300,000, while flooding reached 100-year levels in some areas and forced road closures across the state.
Governor Braun has declared a statewide disaster emergency and deployed the Indiana National Guard. State agencies, local officials, and first responders remain mobilized as communities continue response and recovery efforts.
