HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION: ARRESTS MADE

Sunnyvale, CA - On Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, at approximately 9:39 p.m., Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (DPS) Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area of 1225 Vienna Drive. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female victim inside a vehicle who had sustained gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The suspects fled the scene prior to the officers' arrival. The victim was later identified as Kembery Chirinos-Flores, a 24-year-old Mountain View resident.

On March 5, 2026, Sunnyvale DPS detectives arrested Alfonso Inestroza, also known as Franquin Inestroza-Martinez, an adult resident of Hollister, and Gerzon Chirinos, also known as Gerzon Chirinos-Munguia, an adult resident of Sunnyvale, in connection with this homicide. The coordinated operation spanned two counties and involved multiple law enforcement agencies. A shotgun, which is believed to be the murder weapon, has been recovered.

Both men were booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on murder charges. Inestroza also had an outstanding arrest warrant for an unrelated murder case out of the state of New Jersey.

The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Kembery during this incredibly difficult time. Kembery is survived by her 5-year-old son.

Investigators have determined there is no ongoing threat to the community. This was a tragic and senseless act of violence that is extremely rare in our city. Sunnyvale remains one of the safest cities in the nation.

"These arrests represent an important step toward justice for Kembery and her family," said Sunnyvale Chief of Public Safety Dan Pistor. "I want to commend our detectives for their relentless work and dedication in this investigation. The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety will never stop pursuing justice for victims of violent crime in our community, and we remain committed to holding offenders fully accountable."

Sunnyvale DPS would like to extend our appreciation to our law enforcement partners at the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office, the Santa Clara County Special Enforcement Team, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Hollister Police Department, the San Benito County Criminal Apprehension Suppression and Prevention Response Unit, and the Monterey County Sheriff's Office for their assistance during the investigation and in the successful apprehension of both suspects. Their collaboration and support were instrumental in advancing this case and ensuring those responsible were safely taken into custody.
