Today, PES Women Executive members welcomed Mary Collins, Secretary General of European Women's Lobby, as a special guest, who presented the organisation's priorities for the post-2025 Gender Equality Strategy.
Laeticia Thissen, Gender Equality Senior Analyst at the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) and an ex-officio member of our Executive, also shared FEPS' priorities and recent contributions to this strategy.
Following this, Zita Gurmai, the President of PES Women President, spoke about recent political developments at European level and activities that she has taken part in, including the Conference of Experts on Women's Issues, organised by MENŐK - the Hungarian European Women's Forum Association, where she addressed the importance of gender quotas. She also regretted the absence of any mention of women's rights in the recent State of the Union address, raising concerns about the political prioritisation of gender equality, despite the ambitious EU Roadmap for women's rights presented on March 8.
The discussion concluded with a look ahead to the upcoming PES Congress, taking place from October 16-18 in Amsterdam. PES Women will also hold its annual conference during the Congress, including elections and a meeting of female leaders.
