Baruch College welcomed the Class of 2030 on August 27 as more than 2,300 first-year undergraduates and 1,300 transfer students gathered on campus for Convocation Day.

The annual event serves as an introduction to life at Baruch, giving students an opportunity to meet classmates, connect with campus leaders, and begin building the relationships and experiences that will define their years at the College.

'We believe in your potential'

Speaking to the incoming class, President S. David Wu congratulated students on earning their place at Baruch and reminded them that they belonged here, encouraging them to take full advantage of the opportunities before them, both inside and outside the classroom.

"College should introduce you to ideas that challenge you, people who see the world differently, and possibilities you may never have imagined," Wu said. "It should teach you not only what to know, but how to think, exercise judgment, communicate with confidence, and navigate an increasingly complex and changing world.

"So be curious. Take intellectual risks. Meet your professors. Join something. Explore a museum you have walked past but never entered. Talk with someone whose story is different from yours. Ask for help when you need it-and offer it when someone else does."

Wu concluded with a message of encouragement, reminding students that they were now part of the Baruch community:

"We believe in your potential, we are invested in your success, and we cannot wait to see where your Baruch journey takes you."

Diverse Campus Community

The newest members of the Baruch community arrive from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, reflecting the diversity that has long been a hallmark of the College.

  • 635 high schools across New York
  • New York's five boroughs as well as Long Island, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, and Putnam Counties.
  • 17 states stretching from Hawaii and California to Illinois and Pennsylvania.
  • 156 different colleges and universities for transfer students
