My prayers are with the three Rochester police officers who were shot while responding to a domestic incident late Friday night, and also with the victim of the domestic violence incident. This senseless violence against those who serve to protect us is profoundly troubling to our entire community. The officers were doing their jobs and came under fire while trying to help someone in need, a responsibility they carry out with courage and bravery.

Incidents like this underscore the risks our police officers face every day in service to the public, and they deserve our respect and support as they work to keep our neighborhoods safe. I am also grateful for other responding police officers, first responders, and medical personnel who acted quickly and courageously in a chaotic and dangerous situation to assist and save the lives of these officers.

This is a time to come together as a community, reject violence in all its forms, and reaffirm our shared commitment to our police officers, public safety, and the rule of law.
