As part of its 2050 net-zero ambitions, iGA İstanbul Airport took a major step toward sustainability by advancing plans for a 200 MW solar power plant in Eskişehir, designed to meet the airport's full energy demand. To prepare for the inspection and maintenance requirements of such a large-scale renewable asset, iGA explored advanced technological approaches capable of operating at scale and with high precision.
In this context, iGA collaborated with Hummingdrone on a proof of concept (PoC) to assess the feasibility of using autonomous drones combined with AI-based analytics for solar asset inspection in a smaller, controlled setting. The PoC focused on evaluating the potential of visual inspection and predictive maintenance capabilities, including how such solutions could integrate with iGA's supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems. The PoC delivered valuable insights into the applicability of data-driven, autonomous inspection technologies for renewable energy operations, supporting iGA's informed decision-making as it continues to develop and scale its sustainability infrastructure within a complex aviation environment.
This is the story behind this collaboration.
