Safe Streets is a City of Hayward initiative introduced in 2025 to transform streets with the highest rates of serious-injury and fatal collisions to make them safer for everyone-drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike.

Over the next two weeks, the Hayward Transportation Division is seeking community feedback and input on conceptual plans for Safe Streets redesigns of Tennyson Road between Mission and Hesperian boulevards, A Street between Hesperian and Watkins Street, and B Streets between Martin Luther King Drive and Watkins.

You can check out what is in the works for each of these stretches of road on the Safe Streets Hayward website. Use the "Provide your input" buttons to share your thoughts and perspective on each of the three segments before the plans are presented to the City Council in early 2027. The division will be gathering input in this way until Nov. 13.

Safe Streets projects are funded by a federal Safe Streets and Roads for All grant and are focused on the City's High Injury Network of streets, which make up 14 percent of roadways in Hayward but account for 75 percent of the City's traffic fatalities and serious injuries.

The projects are just one of the ways the City is working toward realizing its Vision Zero policy objective of reducing traffic fatalities and serious injuries to zero by the year 2050. You can read more about Vision Zero and the City's Local Roads Safety Plan on the City of Hayward website.
