House Fire 300 Block 16th St NE

Cedar Rapids Police & Fire Respond to Residential Fire - 300 Block 16th St NE
Cedar Rapids, IA - Cedar Rapids Police and Firefighters responded to a single residential fire in the 300 block of 16th St NE at approximately 6:32p.m. Thursday. First-arriving police officers found one occupant trapped on the porch roof and were able to rescue that person with the use of a nearby ladder. Another occupant was able to escape. Both occupants were taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation and care. Firefighters searched the home and extinguished the fire. The under-control call came at approximately 6:50p.m. Fire damages were mostly contained to the second floor.
At least two cats are known to have perished. Several more cats, along with two dogs, were safely evacuated before or were located and reunited with their owner after the fire by an Animal Control Officer from Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
