Press Release

Today, Congressional Dyslexia Caucus Co-Chairs Congressman Bruce Westerman (AR-04) and Congresswoman Julia Brownley (CA-26) introduced a resolution recognizing October 2025 as National Dyslexia Awareness Month.

Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee and John Hickenlooper (D-CO) introduced the companion resolution in the U.S. Senate.

"This resolution, which I am proud to introduce, raises awareness of the social stigmas and learning challenges our students with dyslexia face every day and underscores the need to equip them with the best tools and resources to reach their full potential," said Congressman Bruce Westerman. "Although millions of students experience the hurdles of this learning disability, dyslexia remains woefully misunderstood. By gaining a deeper understanding, we can foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for all learners. I would also like to extend my thanks to Senator Cassidy and my fellow Dyslexia Caucus Co-Chair, Congresswoman Brownley, for making this a bicameral and bipartisan issue."

"I began my career in public service to ensure that all children, including those with dyslexia like my daughter, have the resources and supportive learning environments they need to reach their fullest potential," said Congresswoman Julia Brownley. "By recognizing October as Dyslexia Awareness Month, we are shining a light on the barriers individuals with dyslexia face and reaffirming our commitment to providing them with the tools and support they need to thrive. As co-chair of the Congressional Dyslexia Caucus, I will continue working to raise awareness and expand opportunities for every person with dyslexia to succeed."

"Despite dyslexia impacting one in five Americans, students are rarely tested," said Dr. Cassidy. "This resolution brings awareness to dyslexia, promoting early screening so students receive the resources they need to reach their full potential."

"Better early screening, modern tools, and more awareness through month-long campaigns like this will help make sure kids with dyslexia are diagnosed early and get the resources they need. I know - I lived it," said Senator Hickenlooper.
