Direct Relief's Humanitarian Activity for the week of 04/02/2026 - 04/09/2026

Over the past week, Direct Relief dispatched 530 shipments of requested medical aid to 46 U.S. states and territories and 12 countries worldwide. The shipments contained 3 million defined daily doses of medication.

Medications and supplies shipped this week included diabetes management supplies, specialty therapies, antibiotics, reproductive health medications, and more.

In Nepal, healthcare providers continue to face growing demand for both primary and specialized care, particularly for women, children, and patients managing chronic conditions. Limited access to affordable, specialized services has created ongoing gaps in care across the country.

Direct Relief recently dispatched a shipment of medical aid to Nepal to support health organizations in the country, including the Kathmandu Institute of Child Health and Siddhi Memorial Foundation, both of which provide essential services to underserved populations. The shipment, weighing more than five tons, includes a range of medications and medical supplies to support the treatment of chronic diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular conditions, as well as acute and routine care needs.

The shipment is expected to arrive mid-April in Kathmandu, where supplies will be distributed across partner-supported facilities to strengthen access to care for patients across multiple regions.

In Nigeria, ongoing outreach efforts in underserved communities are expanding access to essential health services in areas where healthcare infrastructure remains limited. Frontline providers often serve as the first point of care, making access to reliable medical supplies critical for timely treatment.

Through its partnership with U-VOL Foundation, Direct Relief has supported these efforts by providing field medic packs, oral rehydration salts, and essential medications. The supplies are enabling providers to deliver care in real time during community outreach activities, equipping them with the tools needed to respond quickly to patient needs in low-resource settings. This work builds on broader collaboration between the organizations, including efforts to strengthen maternal and neonatal care by equipping and training local health workers.
