Baker McKenzie advises Cohere on acquisition of Reliant AI
Baker McKenzie has advised Cohere on the acquisition of Reliant AI, a leading biopharma AI company with offices in Montreal and Berlin. With this transaction, Cohere expands its sovereign enterprise AI for the global biopharma and healthcare sectors.
Reliant AI is an AI software company founded in 2023 that specializes in generative AI solutions and automated data analytics for the biopharma and healthcare industries. The founders Karl Moritz Hermann, Richard Schlegel and Marc G. Bellemare will join Cohere, with Hermann working as Vice President of AI Verticalizations from Berlin and Bellemare taking on the role of Vice President of Modelling in Montreal.
Cohere is a leading global enterprise AI company, founded in 2019 by Aidan Gomez, Ivan Zhang, and Nick Frosst and headquartered in Toronto, with offices worldwide.
Cohere plans to integrate Reliant AI's technology into its "North for Pharma" product, an agentic AI system purpose-built to enhance productivity and efficiency for teams in the biopharma sector working across R&D, clinical development, and scientific analytics. The product complements Cohere's existing industry-specific solutions for the financial and telecommunications sectors. In addition, the transaction opens up new opportunities across the sector with specialized AI models and solutions tailored to pharmaceutical and biotechnology workflows - and addresses challenges that general AI cannot address. Under the terms of the agreement, Cohere will acquire Reliant AI's customer relationships, including GSK, Medicus Pharma and Kyowa Kirin, and further advance Reliant AI's ongoing engagements with major pharmaceutical companies.
