City of St. Petersburg Hosting Event in Observance of National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week

City of St. Petersburg Hosting "Get the Lead Out" Kickoff Event in Observance of National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week

October 15, 2025 - The City of St. Petersburg is participating in National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (NLPPW) by hosting the Get the Lead Out Kickoff event on Saturday, Oct. 25, at Childs Park Recreation Center. NLPPW occurs from October 19 - 25 and is aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of household lead exposure and promoting actions to prevent childhood lead poisoning. The Get Out the Lead Kickoff Event is part of the city's Healthy Homes initiative.

The Get the Lead Out Kickoff event is focused on empowering St. Pete residents to learn more about household hazards and available resources. Following this initial event, the City will continue its lead exposure reduction education through community classes and the Lead Reduction Grant program.

Get the Lead Out Kickoff Event Details

Saturday, October 25
11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Childs Park Recreation Center
4301 13th Ave. S

Attendees can expect:

  • Household lead hazard education and lead exposure reduction information

  • Free lead safety training for both the public and local contractors

  • Connection with community resources and certified lead remediation contractors

  • Free lead inspections to help identify and address potential household hazards, for those who qualify, limited to 75 residents

Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn about the City of St. Petersburg's upcoming Lead Reduction Grant program, which will offer up to $36,000 in funding for eligible homeowners in the South St. Petersburg Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) for household lead remediation.

Eligibility requirements for the Lead Reduction Grant program include:

  • South St. Petersburg CRA

  • Owner-occupied homes

  • Homes built pre-1978

  • 80% AMI

  • Preference will be given to those homes with a child under 6 or a pregnant woman (or a home where a child under age 6 spends a significant amount of time)
