Government of Canada expands passport service offerings at Charlottetown Service Canada Centre

Access to timely passport services is important for Canadians. The Government of Canada is continuing to improve service delivery to help ensure people can get the passport services they need as quickly and conveniently as possible.

Today, Sean Casey, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, was in Charlottetown to announce improvements to passport services in Prince Edward Island. He made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario. Canadians in Prince Edward Island who need a passport urgently can now access these services closer to home. With the installation of a new passport printer at the Charlottetown Service Canada Centre, passports can now be printed on-site.

With the new passport printer in place, the Charlottetown Service Canada Centre can now offer express passport service (2 to 9 business days) as well as urgent service (by end of the next business day).

Before these improvements, the Charlottetown Service Canada Centre offered 10-business-day passport service and a modified express passport service (3 to 9 business days). Passports were printed in Halifax and delivered by courier to Charlottetown for pickup.

  • Additional fees are applicable to express and urgent passport services, and proof of travel may be required.

  • Since August 2022, the Charlottetown Service Canada Centre has been the only office in Prince Edward Island that gradually expanded passport services, offering the 10-business day and a modified express (3 to 9 business days) services.

  • For fiscal year 2025-2026, the Charlottetown Service Canada Centre received 8,782 passport applications.

  • The Charlottetown Service Canada Centre also offers other federal government programs and services, such as Employment Insurance, Social Insurance Numbers, pensions, the Canada Disability Benefit and the Canadian Dental Care Plan.
