New York State’s $1 Billion Climate Investment Takes Critical Step Forward

NEW YORK - Governor Kathy Hochul has laid out the next steps for New York's $1 billion Sustainable Future Program, including significant investments in clean energy and efficiency upgrades that will save New Yorkers money and support healthier homes, schools, and communities across the state. This program is an essential step forward, as New York joins other states in continuing to take ambitious climate action, despite recent federal rollbacks.

New York can strengthen these investments and align them with the state's climate goals by launching the Clean Air Initiative - the state's most powerful program for cutting climate pollution and cutting costs. The program is projected to deliver over $61 billion in the first 11 years of the program, with the average New York household is projected to save up to $1,022 each year from the Clean Air Initiative.

"The Clean Air Initiative is New York's best tool for addressing both emissions and affordability," said Kate Courtin, Senior Manager, State Climate Policy & Strategy at EDF. "By moving the program forward, Governor Hochul would join the growing list of Governors taking climate action and pushing back against federal attacks on climate."

Recent analysis from EDF shows that leadership states, like New York, have a significant role to play in cutting U.S. emissions. If leadership states achieve their commitments, they are projected to bring the U.S. a third closer to our 2035 Paris-aligned target.
