BASTROP - Bastrop State Park and the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) are planning to conduct prescribed burns this fire season, from October 2026 through March 2027.
In preparation of this, there will be an opportunity for the community to view a prescribed burn early this Fall.
The event will feature public viewing of a prescribed burn at Bastrop State Park with a play-by-play narration by a member of TPWD's Wildland Fire team, some learning opportunities about prescribed fire, and the park superintendent and the TPWD Fire and Habitat Management Coordinator will be available for interview. More information to come.
Our wildland fire personnel look for specific weather conditions to conduct prescribed fire, so staff monitor weather forecasts continually looking for those perfect windows to ensure safety and ecological success.
Due to the conditional nature of prescribed fire, notification will be sent out to interested media parties 24-48 hours in advance along with other relevant materials. If your media outlet is interested in joining us for the prescribed fire, sign up to receive information on timing via the form for media at the reintroduction burn. More information will also become available on the Bastrop SP prescribed fire media kit
