Cary Tennis Park to Close 12 Courts for Post-Tension Concrete Upgrades

  • Cary Tennis Park will temporarily close Courts 1-12, along with the North parking lot and adjacent restrooms, beginning Oct. 5 to replace the existing asphalt tennis courts with post-tension concrete and upgrade to professional-level LED lights.
  • Switching to post-tension concrete courts helps reduce maintenance costs and lower downtime caused by repairs.
  • During the Cary Tennis Park closure, we encourage residents to reserve courts in advance and visit one of our satellite locations.

CARY, NC - Cary Tennis Park (CTP) will temporarily close Courts 1-12 along with the North parking lot and adjacent restrooms, beginning Oct. 5, to replace existing asphalt tennis courts with post-tension concrete and upgrade to professional-level LED lights. This court upgrade will improve aging, cracked courts with a long-lasting option to better serve the premier venue space.

Built in 2002, the current tennis courts have well exceeded their 20-year lifespan. Switching to post-tension concrete courts helps reduce maintenance costs and lower downtime caused by repairs. Post-tension concrete courts tend to last longer than traditional asphalt courts due to their resistance to cracking and shifting. They also provide a more uniform playing experience with a stable surface free of bumps and dips.

During construction, the remaining 13 outdoor and seven indoor courts at CTP will have limited access. Courts at satellite locations may also have limited availability, as there may be increased programming at the following courts:

As a courtesy to pass holders during the project, all passes active as of Oct. 1 will have their pass expiration dates extended by six months. Pass holders may also request cancellation of their pass and receive a refund for the unused portion. No new annual passes will be sold at this time, with the exception of Academy program participants who require a pass as part of their program and Social pass holders who require this for the Triangle Tennis Enthusiasts and Triangle Pickleball Enthusiasts Meetup groups.

In partnership with Wake County, the project will include adding concrete walkways to make the facility ADA accessible. The funding agreement will also go toward building elevated concrete bleacher seating areas, court and bleacher canopy structures, retaining walls, and stormwater drain improvements. The project is estimated to take six months, with a Spring 2027 completion date.

Cary Tennis Park court renovations are part of the Town's continued investment in providing safe, accessible, high-quality outdoor spaces that community members can enjoy for many years to come. Additions to Cary Tennis Park will help it continue to be a nationally recognized facility for major tournaments in the future.
