Congresswoman Pou Opposes Republican Voter ID Poison Pill

WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Nellie Pou (D-NJ-09) voted against a Republican attempt to enact a heavily restrictive voter ID law masquerading as a good government measure.

"I am a strong believer that Congress must combat unprecedented Republican corruption that costs American families money," said Congresswoman Pou. "But this so-called stock ban bill we voted on is a trojan horse that would give the green light to insider trading by congressmembers. The bill also contains a poison pill that continues the GOP's war on voting that seeks to limit voters' access to the ballot by imposing new requirements before Election Day without exceptions. If enacted, this bill could help end all mail voting in New Jersey. No thanks."

"If House Republicans were serious about cleaning up government corruption, they could start by taking up a comprehensive proposed ban on insider trading that has broad backing, covers the insider trading at the White House and which I support enthusiastically. Instead, we just wasted another day on political stunts."

Congresswoman Pou has signed onto the discharge petition that would force Speaker Johnson to call a vote on legislation establishing a ban for Members of Congress, the President, and Vice President from buying and selling stocks while in office (H.R. 6731). She is also a cosponsor of H.R. 6731, the Restore Trust in Government Act.
