11-17-2025 Meeting of The VT NDCAP Federal Nuclear Waste Policy Committee Announced

Montpelier, VT - The Federal Nuclear Waste Policy (FNWP) Committee of the Vermont Nuclear Decommissioning Citizens Advisory Panel (VT NDCAP) will meet on Monday, November 17, 2025 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM. As permitted by ACT 133 of the 2024 Vermont Legislature, this meeting will be conducted solely as a webcast and teleconference.

At this meeting, Dan Stetson, Chair of the Community Engagement Panel for the decommissioning of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS), will discuss the Engagement Panel's efforts to have the SONGS spent fuel inventory moved offsite. (Much like VT-NDCAP, the SONGS Community Engagement Panel serves as a conduit for public information and community involvement regarding the plant's decommissioning.) These efforts include advocating for consolidated interim storage as part of a functioning national nuclear waste management plan. Mr. Stetson has an extensive background in environmental remediation issues. He is currently Executive Director and a trustee of The Nicholas Endowment. He previously served as the President and CEO of the Ocean Institute (Dana Point, CA) and has consulted for the law firm of Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro regarding oil spill incidents.

The November 17 FNWP Committee meeting is scheduled to run from noon to 1:30 pm. Opportunities for public questions and comments will be available. Written questions and comments for the Committee members or the meeting speakers are encouraged and may be submitted to VT NDCAP at VT NDCAP Email Link. This email address can also be used for questions and replies after the meeting or anytime.
