On September 16, the Lee Jae Myung Government finalized 123 national policy tasks, including its national vision and policy objectives. Among these, the five key diplomatic tasks (No. 119-123) are as follows:
(Task No. 119) Enhancing Relations with the Four Major Countries -the United States, Japan, China and Russia - through Pragmatic Diplomacy centered on National Interest
This includes the development of the ROK-U.S. alliance into a future-oriented, comprehensive strategic alliance; the development of a solid and mature ROK-Japan relationship; the mature development of the ROK-China Strategic Cooperative Partnership; and the pursuit of stable management and development of ROK-Russia relations.
(Task No. 120) Emerging as a G7+ Diplomatic Power through Contributions and Active Engagement in the International Community
The Republic of Korea will diversify its diplomatic engagement; proactively respond to global challenges; implement integrated and effective ODA; and promote broader engagement of the private sector, civil society, and citizens in public diplomacy. It will also strengthen the role of diplomatic missions as a platform for the global advancement of "K-initiative"; innovate diplomatic infrastructure and enhance expertise of diplomatic personnel; and reinforce the coordinating and integrating role of overseas missions.
(Task No. 121) Strengthening Economic Diplomacy Capabilities to Address Economic Security and Trade Crisis
To respond swiftly to global trade and economic security issues, the Republic of Korea will reinforce the coordination and integration of economic security policies; take a leading role in global economic diplomacy by chairing multilateral economic fora; support Korean companies' exports and winning of overseas contracts by leveraging overseas missions as outposts; and strengthen science and technology diplomacy with a focus on critical and emerging technologies.
(Task No. 122) Pursuing Substantive Progress in Resolving the North Korean Nuclear Issue and Establishing a Peace Regime on the Korean Peninsula
This includes creating conditions for dialogue on the North Korean nuclear issue through ROK-U.S. consultations and easing of tensions on the Korean Peninsula; pursuing progress in denuclearization through a phased and pragmatic approach; and pursuing denuclearization and peace-building on the Korean Peninsula in tandem.
(Task No. 123) Enhancing the Safety and Convenience of Overseas Korean Nationals and Strengthening Support for the Overseas Korean Community
The Republic of Korea will establish a robust protection network for overseas nationals; improve citizen services to keep pace with the era of 30 million outbound travelers; strengthen customized support for overseas Koreans and maximize their capabilities.
