Groundbreaking Ceremony for North Topping Avenue Streetscape Project

For immediate release: Friday, September 5, 2025

Kansas City is holding a groundbreaking ceremony for the North Topping Avenue Streetscape Project on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 10:30 - 11:30 AM. The project spans along North Topping Avenue from NE 48th Street to the Searcy Creek Greenway.

When: Monday, September 8, 2025, from 10:30 - 11:30 AM

Where: West corner of NE 48th Street and North Topping Avenue

Parking: Street parking along North Topping Avenue

Agenda: Remarks will be delivered by 2nd District Councilmembers Wes Rogers, Lindsay French, staff members from Kansas City Public Works and staff from the North Kansas City School District. A groundbreaking ceremony will follow those remarks.

Roadway improvements include:

  • New curb and sidewalk

  • Drive approaches

  • Widening of the street

Traffic impacts include:

  • Construction will be split into phases, starting on the East side and moving towards the West Side

  • There will be two lanes of traffic during the entirety of construction

  • Additional flaggers will be available to help during peak morning and evening traffic

  • Starting December 1, 2025, to mid-March, construction will be minimal as weather impacts the construction
