SMH to conduct overnight concrete pours in October

Published on October 09, 2026

Sarasota Memorial Hospital (SMH) has updated its concrete-pouring schedule this month for the North Port campus project.

Concrete pours will take place at 1 a.m. this month on:

  • Oct. 5 (backup Oct. 6)

  • Oct. 9 (backup Oct. 10)
Note: With the high possibility of rain, may be moved to Oct. 12 with backup on Oct. 13

  • Oct. 15 (backup Oct. 16)

For overnight operations, traffic control will include:

  • Communication with the North Port Police Department detail team
  • A dedicated flagman on-site to manage movement and safety
  • Cement trucks staged on-site to minimize disruption
  • Dispatching trucks in controlled intervals (two at a time every 15-30 minutes)

The pours are necessary to maintain the project schedule, ensure proper concrete curing time and conditions in Florida's climate and minimize traffic congestion and safety impacts along Sumter Boulevard during peak daytime hours.

The City Commission approved SMH's request to conduct this work at its Jan. 13, 2026, meeting.
