Ethan Englehorn Named City Employee of the Year

Information Technology Department staffer Ethan Englehorn received the City of Greensboro's initial Respect, Accountability, Value, and Excellence (RAVE) Employee of the Year Award on Tuesday at a luncheon in the Melvin Municipal Office Building.

Members of the City's Employee Engagement Advisory Committee (EEAC) selected Englehorn from a pool of six winners of the RAVE Employee of the Month award. The recognition program started in July 2025.

"This feels like what somebody at the Oscars feels like," Englehorn said. "I'm really humbled to be included with this impressive group of nominees, and I'm super appreciative."

"It's really special to me to be able to recognize people who do some of the everyday things that make our City work," City Manager Nathaniel "Trey" Davis said to the nominees. "As the City Manager, you all are the real superstars because you do things that are truly and definitively impactful to our community."

Assistant Payroll Manager Laura Reynolds nominated Englehorn for the December RAVE honor based on his faithful service to the payroll team in the Financial and Administrative Services Department.

"Ethan exemplifies what it means to be an outstanding team member," Reynolds wrote in her nomination. "He consistently goes above and beyond to support the payroll team, and is always willing to help wherever needed, and tries to make our process better."

Reynolds cited an experience in October 2025 when Englehorn resolved an obstacle to producing a critical payroll report with a state-imposed deadline fast approaching. He took ownership of the situation and spent several days ensuring the report's timely and accurate delivery.

"Ethan's dedication, accountability, and commitment to excellence have a direct and positive impact on his team, the Payroll Division, and the City of Greensboro," Reynolds said. "His reliability and willingness to step in during high-pressure situations make him an invaluable asset."

A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, Englehorn joined the City in 2019 after working for High Point University and Bank of America. The enterprise resource program analyst also received training from the SAS Institute in Cary, NC. Englehorn will be recognized before the February 3 meeting of the Greensboro City Council.

The EEAC, in conjunction with the Human Rights Department's Belonging and Engagement Division, developed the RAVE program to recognize one City employee per month and an employee of the year. Monthly winners are selected from nominations submitted by fellow employees.
