Paramount Supports BMA with Locally Developed Protected Mobility Solutions During Enhanced Border Security Operations.

Johannesburg, 30 June 2026. Paramount South Africa has deployed six locally designed and manufactured Maatla protected mobility vehicles in support of the Border Management Authority (BMA), demonstrating how South African industry can play a meaningful role in supporting government institutions to strengthen national security and enhance the operational capability of frontline border personnel.

The enhanced operation forms part of the Border Management Authority's operational readiness during today's planned national mobilisation activities, during which various organisations have called for demonstrations centred on concerns over illegal immigration and border security.

As part of its mandate, the BMA has strengthened operations at key ports of entry to maintain the integrity of South Africa's borders while ensuring the continued lawful movement of people and goods.

Paramount's support is being provided through its partnership with the Border Management Authority and demonstrates how public-private collaboration can strengthen government institutions through locally developed technology and specialist operational support. By combining the BMA's operational expertise with Paramount's engineering capabilities, the partnership enhances South Africa's border security while showcasing the value of South Africa's sovereign industrial capability.

This latest operation builds on the successful deployment of Paramount's Maatla protected mobility vehicles during the Easter border security operations at the Lebombo Port of Entry, where they supported border patrols, surveillance, protection and interception operations, significantly enhancing the mobility, visibility and safety of frontline BMA personnel.

Six Maatla vehicles have been deployed to three strategic border crossings: Beitbridge (Zimbabwe), Lebombo (Mozambique) and Ficksburg/Maseru (Lesotho). Two vehicles have been assigned to each location and operate under the command and operational control of the Border Management Authority.

Purpose-designed by Paramount for border security and homeland protection missions, the Maatla combines high levels of crew protection with exceptional mobility, endurance and operational flexibility. Engineered to operate effectively across diverse and demanding terrain, the platform enables security personnel to conduct extended patrols, maintain a visible deterrent presence and respond rapidly to incidents while remaining protected.

In addition to the vehicles, Paramount has deployed trained drivers and is providing technical support, maintenance, logistics and communications support throughout the operation to ensure maximum operational readiness.

"Protecting South Africa's borders is ultimately the responsibility of the state, but business has an important role to play in supporting government institutions with the technology, innovation and specialist capabilities they require to fulfil that responsibility," said Lindiwe Tsabalala, CEO of Paramount South Africa.

"This partnership with the Border Management Authority demonstrates that can be achieved when government and local industry work together towards a common national objective. By providing South African-designed and manufactured capability, we are helping to enhance operational effectiveness while supporting local manufacturing, engineering excellence and sovereign industrial capability."

Tsabalala said the deployment illustrates the broader contribution South African industry can make to national resilience.

"South Africa possesses one of the most capable defence industries in the developing world. When government and industry collaborate effectively, we not only strengthen our national security, but also sustain skilled jobs, stimulate advanced manufacturing, retain critical engineering expertise and build technologies that can compete successfully on the global stage. This operation is an example of that partnership in action."

South Africa's borders continue to face a range of transnational security challenges, including illegal border crossings, human trafficking, the smuggling of illicit firearms and narcotics, stolen vehicles, counterfeit goods and wildlife trafficking.

Modern protected mobility platforms such as the Maatla enable border officials to patrol vast and often difficult terrain safely, respond rapidly to incidents and maintain a visible security presence while reducing risk to frontline personnel.
