Rep. Marvin Lim and Learn to Grow Launch “Cero O” Campaign to Address Opioid Overdoses

ATLANTA - State Representative Marvin Lim (D-Norcross), in partnership with Learn to Grow, a nonprofit organization, recently launched a "Cero O" campaign to address opioid overdoses. The campaign-which features Opioid 911, a resource for Spanish-speaking individuals-is designed to encourage young people and their families to have open conversations about opioid overdoses, raising awareness while addressing both cultural and linguistic needs.

"Opioid overdoses are a scourge on Georgia communities, and while the rates of overdose have gone down, we cannot stop until there are zero overdoses - hence the name of our campaign," said Rep. Lim. "We've done a lot of work around education and training, including on naloxone for overdose reversal. But this a sensitive subject, one that is best addressed with trusted messengers. That's why I was so proud to partner with the nonprofit Learn to Grow, Jessica Young Films and a local advisory group of adolescents and young adults from McClure Health Science High School. Together, we designed a campaign-including a tool in Spanish-to help facilitate those necessary conversations among peers and between young people and their parents in culturally and linguistically appropriate ways. Thank you to D'Jillisser Kelly, Jessica and Jason Young, Nico Parra and, particularly, a fantastic group of youth: Kiara Albrieux, Tanaya Pinkston, Alvaro Saldarriaga, Tina S. and Nicole de Jesus Sauz."

"Working with Rep. Marvin Lim and the Cero O Advisory Council have been empowering," said D'Jillisser Kelly, MPH, CP, Learn to Grow. "Their leadership in raising awareness about illegal opioid use and advancing cultural competence through resources like Opioid 911 in Spanish demonstrates the power of community action to safeguard and uplift Georgia neighborhoods through prevention and education."

Rep. Lim encourages individuals seeking information about opioids to access Opioid 911 in Spanish at https://www.opioid911.info/espanol-home-page.

Representative Marvin Lim represents the citizens of District 98, which includes a portion of Gwinnett County. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2020 and currently serves on the Agriculture & Consume Affairs, Appropriations, Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety, Health and Retirement committees.
