Cooper University Hospital Earns National Accreditation for Comprehensive Bariatric Surgery Program Including Adolescent Care

Cooper University Health Care has earned Comprehensive Center with Adolescent Accreditation through the American College of Surgeons Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). Cooper's program was recognized for its commitment to delivering high-quality, multidisciplinary care for bariatric surgery patients.

The three-year accreditation, awarded to Cooper University Hospital, acknowledges the program's excellence in patient safety, quality improvement, and outcomes in metabolic and bariatric surgery for both adults and adolescents. The accreditation process included a comprehensive site review evaluating the program's surgical standards, clinical protocols, and patient-centered care model.

"This accreditation reflects the dedication of our entire multidisciplinary team and our commitment to helping patients achieve long-term health and wellness," said Rohit A. Patel, MD, FACS, head of the Division of Bariatric Surgery, assistant program director of Surgery, and associate professor of clinical surgery at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.

"At Cooper, we provide comprehensive, personalized care before, during, and after surgery to ensure our patients have the support they need for lifelong success," said Dr. Patel. "We are proud to be recognized nationally for the quality and safety of our bariatric surgery program, including our ability to care for adolescent patients."

The MBSAQIP accreditation recognizes programs that meet rigorous national standards for bariatric surgical care and demonstrate an ongoing commitment to continuous quality improvement and patient safety.
