New 5-Year Signage Plan for Street Sweeping

The City is implementing a new 5-year plan for street sweeping to install new "No Parking" on street sweeping days signage with the goal of at improving cleanliness of our City and quality of life for residents. The next neighborhoods to receive signage are located in East Salinas near Cesar Chavez Park and East Salinas leading into South Salinas.

The City's street sweeping routes are designed so that only one side of the street is swept at a time. Residents only need to move their vehicle from one side of the street on the designated sweeping day.

What's Next?

The next neighborhoods are planned to be signed this fall:

• E. Market between the 101 underpass and N. Sanborn Rd. from N. Madeira Ave. to Meadow Dr.
• Market Way/W. Lake St. between Martella Ft. and Sun St.
• E. Alisal St. between the 101 underpass and Pajaro St. between E. Market St. and John St.

Community Outreach and 90-Day Warning Period

The City is committed keeping the community informed during all stages of this program, similar to the multi-layered, bilingual outreach and engagement with the 2025 pilot program. Before enforcement begins, the City will conduct community outreach through direct mailers, community events, social media, and partnerships with business, neighborhood associations and community-based organizations. Households and businesses in the new signage areas will receive notification before signs are installed.

Once signs are installed, a 90-day warning period will allow residents to adjust to the new process. During this period, vehicles parked during posted 'No Parking' hours will receive warnings rather than citations. After the warning period, the citation for parking during posted street sweeping hours is $45.

Results from 2025 Pilot Program

The expansion of this program follows the successful implementation of street sweeping signage in East Salinas in 2025 and community feedback requesting additional signage across the City. Data from that project showed curb access for street sweepers improved from 6.3% to 60.2% after signs were installed and enforcement began. Streets with very high sediment and debris dropped from 12.1% to 1.9%.
