Simon & Schuster to be the exclusive publisher of The Great Courses
NEW YORK, NY and CHANTILLY, VA, September 21, 2026 - Simon & Schuster and The Great Courses today announced a comprehensive, long-term publishing relationship. Simon & Schuster will become The Great Courses' exclusive publishing home for books, ebooks, and audiobooks.
The relationship brings together The Great Courses' library of more than 900 college-level courses with Simon & Schuster's publishing expertise and global reach, creating a rich foundation for new books, audiobooks, translations, and original publishing projects for lifelong learners. Drawing from new and existing courses, the shared venture will also generate cross-collaboration opportunities for Simon & Schuster's authors and The Great Courses professors.
"The Great Courses has an extraordinary record of making expert knowledge accessible and engaging," said Richard Rhorer, Vice President & Publisher of Simon Element. "As their book publishing partner, we are excited to adapt that exceptional educational content to books and introduce it to an audience of readers committed to lifelong learning."
"The Great Courses has already proven that their first-class content is highly adaptable to the audiobook format," said Chris Lynch, President & Publisher of Simon and Schuster Audio. "We are excited to work with The Great Courses to expand their audio offerings further, adapting more of their courses to audio and creating more original audiobooks-not only in English, but in multiple languages."
Primarily known for its video-based courses, The Great Courses content library is available digitally through various subscription programs like TGC Plus, TGC Signature Collection, TGC Living and TGC Classics, and through video distribution platforms such as Amazon, Roku, YouTube, Comcast, and Apple TV. The courses are currently available as audiobooks on Audible.
"We are extremely excited about partnering with Simon & Schuster. We look forward to deepening our footprint into book publishing, offering our content in different formats and therefore expanding our audience," said Paul Suijk, President and CEO of The Great Courses. "We have had success over the years offering our popular video courses as audiobooks. By joining forces, we will further expand our global reach and make our courses available on more platforms and in many local languages."
