Trump and Congressional Republicans' unwillingness to reverse health care cuts and cost increases have forced a government shutdown
KINGSTON, NY - Today, Congressman Pat Ryan is raising the alarm on the on-the-ground impacts of federal cuts ripping away health care from Hudson Valley families. Since the passage of President Trump's so-called "Big, Beautiful Bill," Ryan has been speaking out about massive cuts impacting Medicaid and the ACA, kicking 17 million Americans off their insurance - including up to 240,000 in the Hudson Valley - and causing premiums to skyrocket. Now we're seeing that harm on the ground, with new reporting showing that already, federal cuts will soon kick 450,000 New Yorkers off their Essential Plan health care.
That number includes 8,094 people already losing coverage in Orange County, 5,198 in Dutchess County, and 3,724 in Ulster County.
"We're now feeling the harms of Trump's devastating health care cuts and cost increases every day in our community. We already have 17,000 of our neighbors - veterans, single parents, disabled people - receiving letters in the mail that they will lose coverage entirely. Costs are skyrocketing, and hospitals are cutting services. These are burdens our community simply cannot afford. It is completely wrong and deeply un-American," said Congressman Pat Ryan. "But we are not powerless - we fought tooth and nail to prevent these cuts because we knew the devastation they would cause. Now, our fight is against these harms on the ground, wherever we see them and with every tool available. I will not stop fighting for a more affordable Hudson Valley, one where families in our community never have to choose between paying their hospital bill and putting food on the table."
Congressman Ryan was an early, strong critic of President Trump domestic spending agenda - calling it a "Big, Ugly Betrayal" of the American people.Trump's agenda rips health care coverage away from more than 17 million Americans, is set to cause a massive hike in insurance premiums for millions, and has already closed, significantly reduced services, or forced mass layoffs at countless hospitals nationwide.
