Sierra Pacific Industries to Close Public Access to California Forestlands Due to Wildfire Risk
Closure begins Monday, June 22
Anderson, CA- Due to the increasing risk of wildfires as a result of a reduced snowpack, increasing dry vegetation conditions, and an expected hot and dry summer, Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) will close its California forestlands to public access beginning June 22, 2026.
SPI considers various wildfire risk factors when closing its lands to public access, including dry vegetation, low moisture levels, rising temperatures and long-range weather forecasts for the region. SPI employs fire prevention measures through proactive forest management tactics, including collaboration with land management partners to implement fuel breaks, initiate fuel reduction projects, and deploy appropriate, aggressive fire suppression efforts during the wildfire season.
During the closure starting on June 22 the use of SPI's roads and walk-in access to the Company's lands is prohibited. Only SPI roads shared with federal landowners and designated for public use will remain open. Public roads crossing SPI lands are not affected by this closure.
This closure will remain in effect until conditions improve. For updates regarding access, visit SPI's website https://www.spi-ind.com/OurForests/RecreationAccess . For inquiries associated with the closure, contact the SPI California Public Recreation Hotline at 530-378-8274.
