Applications open for the 2026 Artist Business Mini-Accelerator

Artists in Marin County who are interested in strengthening the business side of their creative practice can apply for the 2026 Artist Business Mini-Accelerator offered by the Marin Small Business Development Center.

The three-month course will provide participating local artists with practical tools for managing, marketing, and growing their businesses. It is intended for both artists who are beginning to sell their work and established artists seeking a more strategic approach to their business operations.

Approximately 20 to 25 artists will be selected for the program. Applicants should have a clear creative focus and a willingness to explore new business practices.

Participation is FREE. The course has an estimated value of more than $2,500 and is made possible through support from the Marin Small Business Development Center's funding partners.

What participants will learn

Through expert instruction, personalized guidance, and support from a community of fellow artists, participants will learn how to:

• Strengthen marketing and sales: Identify target audiences, develop compelling marketing messages, and explore ways to sell art online and in person.
• Set actionable goals: Create clear and achievable goals for growing an art business.
• Manage finances: Organize and track business finances properly through informed decision-making.
• Price artwork effectively: Receive feedback and guidance on developing appropriate pricing strategies.
• Build community and accountability: Connect with other artists, share experiences, and stay accountable throughout the program.

Program details

• Dates: Wednesdays, twice per month, from September 9 through November 18, 2026
• Schedule: Two classes per month. Six classes total.
• Time: 6pm to 8pm
• Location: Classes will alternate between in-person sessions in San Rafael and online sessions through Zoom
• Cost: Free to participants

Meet the instructor

The series of six classes will be led by Gina Danford, who brings more than 15 years of experience in business strategy and leadership.

Before becoming a consultant, Danford was a partner in a small business, where she supported company growth, improved business operations, and helped scale the company for a successful sale. She now advises small business owners on profitability, strategic planning, and the systems needed to manage growth.
