M-35 culvert project detour starts July 27

ISHPEMING, Mich. ­- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing about $3.6 million to replace a culvert on M-35 over Warner Creek north of Palmer in Marquette County. Work includes replacing the existing structure with a concrete box culvert, asphalt rebuilding and pavement markings.

Traffic restrictions:
Motorists should expect one lane of alternating traffic with a temporary signal starting July 20.

Northbound and southbound M-35 will be closed at Warner Creek beginning July 27 with a posted detour on US-41 and M-553. The detour is expected to last two weeks.

After the detour is lifted, one lane of alternating traffic with a temporary signal will resume for approximately two weeks.

Jobs numbers:
Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 30 jobs.

Safety benefit:
This work will replace a culvert that has reached the end of its service life, extending the lifespan of the roadway and increasing safety for motorists.
